Children's National Medical Center
During my three weeks at Children's National Medical Center (CNMC), I was able to complete rotations in two different specialties. For the first week, I was in the Gastroenterology Unit and the second week was spent in the Cardiology Unit with one day in the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit. I was also able to complete my elective rotation in the Hematology and Oncology Units.
- Gained knowledge in working with the pediatric population, providing medical nutrition therapy, nutrition related lab values, infant formula selection, enteral nutrition and TPN calculation
- Week 1: Inpatient Gastroenterology
inflammatory bowel diseases.
- Learned more about the importance of providing nutrition support
for the pediatric population
- Week 2: Cardiology
and medical nutrition therapy for patients with congenital heart defects.
- Learned more about nutritional needs for patients in the CICU and provided nutrition recommendations.
